Launched by our winch to 1,200 feet – this is often the best way to experience gliding. The flight lasts between 5 and 10 minutes, depending on the thermal conditions.

Winch Launch 1,200 is a flight launched by the winch to 1200 feet, which will last between 5 to 10 minutes. The launch takes around 30 seconds and is quite exhilarating – after that the length of the flight will be determined by the weather conditions of the day. Should you wish the instructor will allow you to take control of the glider as you glide silently looking down at the Lincolnshire Countryside.
In addition, trial lessons include temporary membership of the Club for 3 months, during which additional flights can be taken at ‘club rates’, as listed on the Become a Member page. All flight times are approximate and subject to the weather. Vouchers are valid for 12 months from date of purchase. We fly weekends, bank holidays and on a Wednesday – subject to the weather.

Aerotow 2,000 is a flight launched by tow plane to 2,000 feet, which may last up to 20 minutes.

Aerotow 2,000 is a flight launched by tow plane to 2000 feet, which may last up to 20 minutes. The launch is a gentle 5 minute climb behind the tug as it tries to find the best rising air in the sky. Once the tow has been released you will be floating silently across the Lincolnshire Countryside. Should you wish, your instructor will show you how to fly the glider as you try to catch a thermal for your first soaring flight. Alternatively you can sit back and enjoy the sights as you float effortlessly through the sky.

Mile High’ is a flight launched by tow plane to 1 mile high (5,280 feet), which may last around 45 minutes.

Mile High’ is a flight launched by tow plane to 1 mile high (5280 feet), and lasts around 45 minutes. For 15 minutes the tug will gentle tow you and your instructor over the Lincolnshire countryside until you are one mile high. Once you have released the tow rope you will be free to soar between the clouds. Looking out you should be able to see Lincoln Cathedral to the south, Scunthorpe to the north and in the distance, the Humber Bridge. Should you wish, your instructor will show you how the glider flies and let you have a go at soaring.

Our “Introduction to Gliding” Day is a small package of flights (2 x Winch & 2 x Aerotow) designed to be taken on one day.

Our “Introduction to Gliding” Day is a small package of flights (2 x winch launches & 2 x 2000 feet aerotows) designed to be taken on one day. During the day you will be given an in depth look at the sport and start to learn the skills required to fly a glider. By the end of the day you will have started the journey towards being a solo pilot. Alternatively you could sit back and let your instructor fly you across the Lincolnshire Countryside as you enjoy the view.

Depending on the weather, your flight will begin with either a tow behind a powered aircraft to around 2000 feet, or a winch launch to approx 1200 ft. After release from the winch or tow aircraft, your instructor will demonstrate the flying controls and explain how the glider can stay airborne using lift generated by the sun and wind.
Your instructor will also give you the opportunity to fly the glider yourself – it’s not as difficult as you might think. He/she will guide you through with patience and a steady hand. However, you don’t have to take the controls if you don’t want to – you can just sit back and enjoy the view if you prefer. The views are stunning.
